In May 1987, in a meeting that was taking place in a medium-class district of Nova Friburgo (Brazil), "Asa de Luz" was born, a Progressive Rock band with influences from the recent Rock in Rio Festival (1985), with inclination to Progressive Rock like Queen, Yes and Marillion.

In August 1996, the band released its first CD. This work was not destined propely to the progressive audience, but the songs showed a big tendence to it. Great musicians from the Brazilian progressive scene took part in this work: the drummer Lincoln Cheib (from Milton Nascimento's band), the bassist and musical producer Ivan Corrêa (from Lô Borges' band and Marco Antônio Araújo's band), the violinist Marcus Viana (from Sagrado Coração da Terra), the guitarrist Augusto Rennó (also from Sagrado), the singer Carla Villar (from Tindade) and the drummer Neném (from Beto Guedes' band). Being an independent album, this CD has had a good repercussion, allowing the band to sign a contract (for 8 years) with the Progressive Rock Worldwide Recording.

From this partnership arised "The Link" CD, a Progressive Rock album, with the majority of the lyrics in English, replete of solos and instrumental arrangements which disclose a melodic texture, alternating analogical keyboards, electric and acoustic violin and the excellent work of the guitarrist Cauê Lobo. "The Link" is, above all, an honest and true work. It is a link that unites Nova Friburgo, a heart in the mountain, with the Progressive Rock's worldwide space, testifying that music is a link apt to join the whole World.

Nowadays, Asa de Luz is: Mauro Machado (vocal), Salvador Netto (keyboard), Ivan Corrêa (bass), Guilherme Fontão (violin), Cauê Lobo (guitar), Fernando Ramos (acoustic guitar) and Marcelo Braune (drum).
